Dedicated to the CamGuys who have gone before....

Webcams have been a part of the net for several years, probably the most famous being the coffee pot at the University in America, which is arguably the first webcam ever to exist, and the Jenny Cam, which was the first widely publicised personal cam. There have been, over the past few years, hundreds if not thousands of others.... cams spring up every day, some are on 24hrs a day, others just a few minutes a week, and most don't last more than a couple of months before the cam operator gets bored and moves on to the next toy. But some of them become widely known, some even become legends - but when they eventually close for whatever reason they are quickly forgotten. I have been running a cam since March 1998. Back then there were less than 100 webcams in the world, and hardly any of them were on all the time.... and many of the guys who had cams back then have now pulled the plug, going from global fame to web anonymity almost overnight. I wrote this page for my own benefit, sort of a web-cam scrap-book, and since you're here you are obviously interested too. I don't have exact dates that the cams were up, or stats, or the reasons for some of them closing, but that's not what this page is about. Infact, if you didn't see them at the time, you'll probably be as interested as looking at the mother-in-laws' holiday snaps from 1963....

Cary's Homepage

The Infamous CaryCam

One of the first cams I started to watch on a regular basis, and one time we chatted via ICQ with our cams pointing towards the screens, so we could see each other watching each other.... if that makes any sense....
The cam was only up from April 1998 to August 1998 but during this time it became one of the top cam sites. Cary closed the site because, amongst other reasons, his chat room regulars managed to break up his relationship.

!CJUK!

Chris started his cam a few weeks before me, and was one of the reasons I started a camsite.
He was probably the first UK cam guy and was on almost every evening in the chat room, and met his boyfriend Ady through it.
We were both featured in a UK national newspaper double-page spread about webcams in the autumn of 1998.
Chris closed the site at the end of November 1998 without giving a reason.

Rick in Toronto

Rick was a good friend, and we used to pop up in each other's chat rooms from time to time.
Although he wasn't on cam very often, he had a huge following, being one of the first Canadian guys on cam. Like most of the long-surviving cam sites, Rick never showed deliberate nudity.
The site closed at the beginning of September 1999, no reason was given.

Something tells me he'll be back!

SeanPatrickLive

Sean Patrick was one of the first camguys on the web, and through heavy promotion became probably the most famous, regularly receiving press and TV coverage.
He decided to close the cam after 3 years because he had become bored with it.

There have been many more, but these are the main sites I used to visit. Some of them may return, others won't, but like all things in our lives they leave an impression, and will be in our hearts forever....
